SMOONIE

Starting in the summer of 2015, I started my first retail job (technically). This new store opened up in a small mall in Princeton, NJ called Market Fair. There are only a couple of stores that complete this mall to make it selective. People come to Market Fair with the purpose of going to the movies, Barnes & Noble, Anthropologie, Gap, Athleta, Starbucks, or to eat at one of the nice restaurants.

A few moms recommended this store to me; they told me I HAD to go into this one store that just opened. I decided to adventure to Market Fair to see what this new store was about. I walked into the store and instantly fell in love with every single piece of clothing. There were bathing suites, tops, shorts, pants, jewelry, shoes, and bags everywhere – basically any girl’s heaven! I immediately asked if they were hiring and received an application.

Little did I know, South Moon Under would be an incredible experience.

I was hired at the end of June/beginning of July of 2015. My first couple of days were nerve racking; as they would be at any job. I had to learn all the basics of South Moon Under.

Starting from a little surf shop in Ocean City, MD, South Moon Under has grown into a well known retail store on the east coast. This company is still privately owned but hopefully it will go public soon! SMU wants to make you feel like you are at home; and that is exactly how I felt when I was hired.

The store has a comfortable vibe the moment you walk in. There is always music playing and people having conversations. The store also has very bright lights which helps you stay awake for a six+ hour shift. As a sales associate, I was able to style and help any customer that needed my assistance. I could give my personal opinion on how the shoes, necklace, pants or dress looks on a certain lady. This has made me a more outgoing and personable person. Not only have I grown, I have made plenty of new friends. There is nothing more exciting than creating new relationships with the people you see almost every single day.

After being at SMU for about nine months (technically five because I’m seasonal), I have never had a better experience and cuter clothes :). This job has trained me to focus on every single person that walks through the door and be their personal shopper. Also, I have a better sense of what I want to do in the fashion industry. But for now, I head back to my second home and will be back at South Moon Under in Market Fair before I know it.

I’ll miss you SMU! Oh, FYI, this location only has women’s clothing – sorry men!
